You’d think that the rom-rom-com-musical LITTLE MONSTERS, starring Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o (US, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 12 Years a Slave), Broadway and feature film, and Disney voice actor veteran Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon, Frozen, Murder on the Orient Express) and a horde of zombies menacing a bus full of British schoolchildren wouldn’t have a problem finding room in the American multiplex after an acclaimed US debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

And you’d have to rethink that notion.

While filmgoers in the UK and Ireland get to see Little Monsters on the big screen starting November 15, US audiences, at least for now, have to wait for Hulu and distributor Neon to announce Stateside release plans. Which is a shame, since the premise sounds like a delightfully gory mix of songs and splatter in the vein of Anna and the Apocalypse .

I’d put my money on Miss Caroline and the shovel.

Layabout slaker/musician Dave (Alexander England) finagles a gig chaperoning a kindergarden field trip, not out of familial love, but solely to worm his way closer to his nephew’s teacher, Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o). Two things stand in his way; popular children’s television host Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad), and a zombie apocalypse. As the press release so charmingly phrases it, “Will Dave rise to the occasion and have a chance at Miss Caroline’s heart, or will zombies get there first?

For now, American Zom-Rom-Com Musical fans will have to content themselves with rewatching Anna, Warm Bodies, Shawn of the Dead – and the Little Monsters trailer below.
